How does Probiotic Deodorant work?
Nature Body is the first in NZ to create a natural probiotic deodorant!
It works by utilizing two topical probiotic strains that used to live on our skin before the age of anti-bacterial soaps and washes.
One strain in particular oxidizes sweat on your body and helps keep the skin healthy. It also reduces the need for deodorant! Beware of other companies who have tried copying our probiotic deodorant, but don't get it right or don't use the correct topical strains of probiotics (internal probiotics won't have the same effect!).
Organic sodium bicarbonate helps keep odours away & healing oils, organic bentonite clay and butters soothe and moisturise, while the essential oil mixes keep you smelling beautiful. It is aluminium & nasty chemical-free of course!
It doesn’t stop you sweating, (which would be a bad thing!), but it does stop odour! Sweating is totally, completely 100% natural. It’s our bodies’ way of expelling toxins and regulating temperature. Without sweat, just imagine what a cesspool of toxins our bodies would be!
Additionally, sweat itself doesn’t actually smell: it’s just a combination of water and salt. What does produce that tangy body odor is when sweat comes into contact with the bacteria that lives on our skin (also natural and normal!).
Why should we use a natural deodorant?
The skin is our biggest organ, and 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the body! And our underarms are a very sensitive area of our body.
You are supposed to sweat, and attempting to stop or interfere with this process is, to put it bluntly, not good for you. Conventional deodorant contains antibacterial ingredients that are meant to kill the natural bacteria on your skin before it gets the chance to mingle with your sweat and cause a stink. Antiperspirants deal with sweat directly by including aluminum (which is a known neurotoxin) compounds that stop sweat glands. Alzheimer's and breast cancer, have been linked to the same aluminum compounds found in antiperspirants, eek!
Natural deodorants don't block pores, so that good bacteria keeps working, meaning less odor even when you're not wearing any deodorant, plus our probiotic deodorant repopulates the BENEFICIAL bacteria on your skin!
How long does it last?
Most users find that one tube lasts 3-6 months, although some find it lasts for 1 year.
How do I use it?
Gently push up the base of tube to start using. Rub or spray on the deodorant after showering; only a little is needed each day.
What do I do if I have a reaction?
Some people are sensitive to the organic sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in natural deodorant. Baking soda is one of the best natural ingredients for stopping odour, which is why we use it, in conjunction with magnesium powder.
It is impossible to know beforehand who may react unfortunately, although you may know beforehand if you have sensitive skin, so we advise using our sensitive skin deodorant, or spray deodorant rather than our standard or extra-strength deodorant.
But if you have a reaction, perhaps red, itchy spots or a light rash, we recommend immediately stopping using it. We've seen some advice online saying that the reaction is simply a detox, but that is incorrect, it won't get better by continuing to use it!
If you react to baking soda, we advise using our probiotic spray deodorant, which is baking soda-free, non-sting, great for sensitive skin, even skin with eczema. Also great for non-shaved pits ;-) Spray deodorants are also vegan, plus this solid vegan tube deodorant.
I hope you enjoy using our natural probiotic deodorant as much as we enjoy making it!
